This presentation will address the global rise of the platform-based ‘sharing’ economy and the emergence of transportation network companies (TNCs) such as Didi, GrabTaxi, Lyft, Ola and Uber. It will offer a conceptual framework though which to analyze the implications of these platform firms for the radical transformation of urban transportation markets and attendant challenges and opportunities for urban planning.
